CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – As many of you may already be aware, next year, Charlottesville will use ranked choice voting to nominate candidates for City Council in the June primary election. This year, the city’s Grand Illumination organizers have decided to implement ranked choice voting to name the holiday tree that will be lit December 6 at the Downtown Mall. A city release says “to offer the community familiarity and practice using the process ahead of the City Council election next year”… click here where “you can join in a practice round by using ranked choice voting for the Grand Illumination tree”. You’ll be ranking the choices in order on the ballot… Spruce Lee, Oatmeal the 3rd, Boots with the Fir, and Treelor Swift.
The winner will be announced Monday.
