Franklin County mudslide comes from MVP clearing site

BOONES MILL (WINA) – Preserve Floyd is doing a call for action for Mountain Valley Pipeline opponents after a mudslide into Cahas Mountain Road from a pipeline clearing site in Franklin County. Mara Robbins with the activist group just over the county line says workers had been working — she claims without proper permitting — for about two weeks at the site. This mudslide after torrential downpours Thursday night into Friday morning has buried anywhere from 12-to-18 inches of mud on about 50 feet of the road. She says it’s enough where traffic is blocked, and at least one school bus had to be diverted.

Robbins says she hates to engage in “told you so” unless “it’s viable… and in this case, we’ve been citing this for close to four years”.  Preserve Floyd is putting out a call to action for people to call the Governor’s office and urge Governor Northam to put a stop to the project. She says this incident shows it’s clear the DEQ has made approvals without adequate measures.
