CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – Whether you’re looking to take in cinematic short films, indie-folk brilliance, or a string-backed Coldplay tribute, there’s plenty to explore across the region. Each week, Anand Harsh of 106.1 The Corner will direct your attention to the music and arts events happening in Charlottesville and surrounding areas that you absolutely can’t miss. These are, at the very minimum, shows you should hit if you’re in the neighborhood—all the way up to cancel-your-plans, call the sitter, and buy your tickets right now.

CALL THE SITTER

  • Sept 12: Adam Sandler @ John Paul Jones Arena
I’ve been listening to Adam Sandler CDs for the last 30 years. The guy has an impressive body of work that is eminently quotable, and I know he’ll be breaking out the big hits at the JPJ this weekend.

  • Sept 12: The Barons and HASH @ Jefferson Theatre
This is Charlottesville music right here. Two of the best representatives of the sound of the city in one night. It’s a big deal for both of these bands to be on the big stage now and they truly deserve it with incredible musicianship and solid songwriting.

CHECK IT OUT

  • Sept 12: Katja Attenshun presents: Drag & Dance Night @ The Southern Cafe & Music Hall
This is just plain fun. You like fun, right?
  • Sept 13: Mighty Joshua @ Pro Re Nata (Crozet, VA)
You can expect really solid reggae, some of the best in Virginia as a matter of fact, on this weekend’s show.
