CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – Whether you’re looking to take in cinematic short films, indie-folk brilliance, or a string-backed Coldplay tribute, there’s plenty to explore across the region. Each week, Anand Harsh of 106.1 The Corner will direct your attention to the music and arts events happening in Charlottesville and surrounding areas that you absolutely can’t miss. These are, at the very minimum, shows you should hit if you’re in the neighborhood—all the way up to cancel-your-plans, call the sitter, and buy your tickets right now.

CALL THE SITTER

  • June 15: The Arcadian Wild @ Jefferson Theater
With a sweet sound that blends folk, Americana, and bluegrass, this powerhouse trio has a gazillion streams and a lively stage show to back that all up. It’s the perfect cap to your weekend and a dazzling display of technical musicianship.

  • June 14: Shagwuf @ MAZZ Fest
Missing a Shagwuf show is one of the most inadvisable things you can do. Sally Rose, Pablo, and Sweet Pete are such a fun and exciting live act and their garage rock sound and biting lyrics are a perfect blend.

CHECK IT OUT

  • June 13: Ramona & The Holy Smokes @ Fridays after Five
Ramona and her honky tonk band are Cville treasures. They’ve also been hard at work in the studio churning out a new record and the sound is as sweet as the name. One of the highlights of the FAF season for sure.
  • June 13: Mighty Joshua @ The Southern Café & Music Hall
My absolute BOYS Mighty Joshua are a thrilling reggae act out of Richmond, though they practically call Charlottesville home. And I know they’re sitting on some unreleased hit that’s yet to hit the studio that absolutely rips live.

DROP IN

  • June 9: Comedy Open Mic @ The Southern Café & Music Hall
Charlottesville is rich with comic geniuses hiding in plain sight. The open mic hosted by Chris Alan is their chance to shine.
