Waynesboro e-biker dies in Augusta Co hit-and-run crash

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – An e-bike rider is the victim, and an SUV driver faces charges, in a fatal hit-and-run crash Sunday night in Augusta County.

State Police report a Kia Sorento was northbound on Stuarts Draft Highway (Route 340) around 9 p.m. Sunday when it struck an e-bike, also headed northbound, near Ladd Road near the Augusta- Waynesboro line.

The e-bike rider, 25-year old Dylan C. Knowles of Waynesboro, died at the scene.

The Kia driver, 36-year old Samuel W. call, allegedly fled the scene initially, but was taken into custody with the help of Waynesboro Police.

He’s being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail on charges of driving while intoxicated and felony hit-and-run.

Virginia State Police is asking anyone who may have seen the e-bike travelling on Stuarts Draft Highway prior to the crash to please contact Virginia State Police Division Three Dispatch at 1-800-552-0962 or email questions@vsp.virginia.gov.
