CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- On bubble-watch for the NCAA tournament next month, and following a defeat to California on Thursday night, the Virginia women’s basketball team got back into the win column on Sunday afternoon with an excellent, polished performance against Stanford.

Kymora Johnson scored 25 points as UVA downed the Cardinal, 75-69.

Caitlin Weimar and Gabby White gave the Cavaliers a lift off the bench, combining for 23 points and 17 rebounds.

Nunu Agara led four Cardinal players in double figures, scoring 21.

After a sluggish start to the game, the Hoos outscored Stanford 25-15 in the second quarter. In past games this season, Virginia has fallen victim to runs against it coming out of the locker room in the second half. Against Stanford, the Hoos were ready for just such a run, holding onto an 8-point lead despite the third quarter ending with both teams scoring 23 points.

Virginia made its trips to the free-throw line count, earning nearly double Stanford’s points at the charity stripe 28 to 14.

The Cavaliers continued their success on the glass, outrebounding Stanford, 49-36.

Stanford rallied from a 10-point deficit to tie the game 64-64 with three minutes to play, but – unlike Thursday against California, UVA was able to outlast the Cardinal.

The Hoos will be back in action Sunday, February 22nd against Louisville at the Yum Center.  Tipoff is set for noon.
