CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- Virginia women’s basketball bowed out of the ACC tournament early following a defeat against Clemson in Round 2 on Thursday afternoon 63-50.

Both teams, 8-seed UVA and 9-seed Clemson, entered Thursday on the NCAA Tournament bubble.

Star guard Mia Moore paced the Tigers with 19 points, going 7-8 from the floor, and 2-2 from the three-point line.

Paris Clark led the way for the Hoos with 15 points, four rebounds, and was strong on defense with four steals.  Sa’Myah Smith reached double digits on rebounds with 11.

The largest lead for either team going into the fourth quarter was five points.  Neither squad was able to achieve any separation from their opponents.  Clemson was stronger than Virginia from 3-point range, going 10 for 20 compared to Virginia at 4 for 19.

Virginia, following their difficult defeat to Virginia Tech to close the regular season, got back to their normally strong rebounding abilities 39, to Clemson’s 35.

Clemson won every quarter of the contest, finally extending its advantage to double digits for the first time in the contest in the fourth, as it benefitted from clean defense against Virginia and foul-heavy, disjointed defense on them from the Cavaliers. The Tigers outscored UVA 35-24 in the second half.

The Hoos now must wait for Selection Sunday on March 8 to learn their postseason fate.
