Virginia Back To School Sales Tax Holiday through Sunday, August 4

RICHMOND, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Today (Friday) begins Virginia’s Annual Back To School Sales Tax Holiday weekend as some in our area go back to class this coming week. The sales tax holiday applies, among other things, to school supplies less than $20 an item, and clothing and footwear $100 or less per item. And it’s not just back-to-school items, the holiday also applies to hurricane and emergency preparedness products. These include portable generators $1000 or less, has powered chainsaws $350 or less, and other hurricane preparedness items $60 or less. Energy Star and WaterSense products are also included at $2500 or less per item.

Augusta, Culpeper, Waynesboro and Staunton schools start Wednesday… and Nelson and Louisa counties start Thursday. All but one school in Orange County start Wednesday… but Gordon-Barbour Elementary starts August 12 due to a construction delay.
