CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Another big game from junior star Kymora Johnson, along with the best performance of the year by transfer Sa’Myah Smith, has the Virginia women’s basketball team advancing in the NCAA Tournament.

Johnson scored 28 points to go with seven rebounds and six assists, and Smith, who added a double-double, with 22 points and 10 rebounds, as UVA fought past Georgia, 82-73 in overtime win in Iowa City, Iowa in the round of 64.

Virginia opened the game shooting well, ending the first quarter with a 24-16 advantage however, Georgia responded with a 27-18 advantage in the second quarter to take a one-point lead into the half.

In the second half both teams traded baskets and Virginia actually faced foul trouble in the post, but a late three pointer by senior Romy Levy tied the game at 71, and in the subsequent possession, Georgia could not score at the end of regulation.

In the extra session Virginia took control fairly quickly and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 11-2 to advance in the tournament.

Virginia will play Monday night at a time to be determined by the television networks and will face either 2-seed host Iowa or 15th-seeded Farleigh Dickson. Those teams play later Saturday.
