CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Heading into Saturday night’s 8pm kickoff at Virginia Tech, Virginia Head Football Coach Tony Elliott says “this is rivalry week”, and that’s what matters.  Since beating Virginia Tech last at Lane Stadium in 1998, the Hoos have won just twice in the rivalry… 2003 and 2019, both at Scott Stadium.

Elliott says he knows he talks about how every game is the most important game on the schedule, and that’s true. But he says a rivalry game is different, has to be different for everyone involved. Both teams are playing for bowl eligibility, but Elliott says he’s really after “having all the folks who support Virginia have the upper hand for 365 days”… saying that’s the way he was bred in a rivalry.
