UVA Football Retains Veteran Tight End Sackett Wood Jr. for 2024 Season

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Thanks to an NCAA waiver, UVA Football will hold onto a veteran receiver for the 2024 season. Sackett Wood Jr. had not previously announced his plans for 2024, but a University of Virginia spokesperson confirmed Wednesday that the graduate tight end will play for the Cavaliers despite his absence from 2024 spring workouts.

Wood started eight games in 2023, catching nine passes for 141 yards, averaging 15 yards per catch. He will also be the only familiar target for QB Anthony Colandrea at the tight end position in 2024, as the other two tight ends are transfers: Tyler Neville from Harvard and Sage Ennis from Clemson.

Neville caught 62 passes for 698 yards over three seasons at Harvard, while Ennis caught six passes for 77 yards in a backup role at Clemson from 2020-23.

UVA Football begins their season on August 31st at home against the Richmond Spiders.
