UVA Football Player Arrested on Rape, Abduction Charges

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)-  22-year-old Jahmal Edrine was arrested and charged with one count of rape and one count of abduction on Thursday, according to the Albemarle County Police Department.

The arrest came following an investigation by the ACPD that began on Aug. 25 after a victim reported being sexually assaulted the day before.

The 22-year-old Edrine played for Virginia football this past season after enrolling at the university in January. UVA officials have confirmed to Cville Right Now that they’re aware of the matter and Edrine is currently not enrolled as a student.

He is being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

The Purdue transfer had 46 receptions for 564 yards and a touchdown for UVA, which won a program record 11 games.
