Athletes currently and formerly affiliated with UVA athletics earned a total of 14 medals—7 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze—competing not only for Team USA but for other countries as well.
Several UVA swimmers were well-decorated by the end of the competition earlier this month, including Gretchen Walsh, Kate Douglass, and Paige Madden. The Cavaliers also had a strong showing in Track and Field events at Stade De France, representing various countries.
Croatian thrower Filip Mihaljević threw 20.75 meters in the shot-put preliminaries.
Nigerian thrower Ashley Anumba, a law student at UVA, threw the discus 58.83 meters in qualifying.
USA pole vault champion Bridget Williams, who won the Olympic Trials last month in Eugene, Oregon, competed alongside Olympic veteran Katie Moon, clearing 4.40 meters in the preliminary round.
Grenadian sprinter Halle Hazard advanced from the 100-meter dash preliminary round with a time of 11.80 seconds. She exited the competition in the first round, improving her time to 11.70 seconds.
Jumper Jordan Williams recorded a distance of 16.36 meters in the qualifying round of his event.
Jamaican sprinter Andrenette Knight qualified for the women’s 4×400 relay final. Her team finished with a time of 3:24.92 to qualify. In a race dominated by the USA, led by Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the Jamaican team was running strong, with Knight maintaining their 2nd place position. However, as the pack behind Levrone bunched up, Knight unfortunately dropped the baton, resulting in a DNF for her team.
