CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Formed by former President Thomas Jefferson, led by former President James Madison as rector, and with former President James Monroe once on the Board of Visitors, Time Magazine has ranked the University of Virginia the third-leading public University in the nation for leadership development.

The magazine, leading into the listing, said, “To understand the formative experiences and paths of American leaders, TIME and Statista analyzed a diverse group of 4,800 of the most influential figures shaping U.S. society today—from policymakers and corporate executives to leading scientists, educators, and cultural innovators.”

UVA is behind only UC-Berkeley and University of Michigan in the public ranking.

Overall, when the private schools are added, Berkeley is 7th, Michigan 11th, and UVA 17th.

Harvard, Stanford, Yale, MIT and Columbia are the top five overall.

The top-ranked public school for leadership is Cal-Berkeley, which is 7th overall… and 2nd is Michigan at 11th overall.

The list includes the Darden School of Business, University of Virginia School of Law, and University of Virginia School of Medicine as “relevant subsidiaries” among its considerations.
