CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Three people were arrested Thursday in connection with a Wednesday armed robbery and carjacking in Culpeper.
King George County Sheriffs arrested Claudia Teresa Aldana, a 50-year-old Colombian, Luis Felipe Garcia Baez, a 48-year-old Mexica, and Elisa Andrea Espitia Campos, a 47-year-old Colombian. The three are now being held at the Central Virginia Regional Jail without bond.
The trio face charges from both the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Culpeper Police Department.
In Orange County, they are charged with robbery with a firearm, carjacking with a firearm, abduction by force, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Culpeper Police charged them with robbery with a firearm, abduction by force, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Additional charges are expected to be filed.
On Wednesday, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a robbery.
“During the initial investigation, it was determined that the incident began as an abduction in the Town of Culpeper,” according to a release. “Investigators from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office immediately launched a joint investigation with the Culpeper Police Department. Based on current information, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the victim was leaving the Culpeper Walmart when she was approached by suspects who asked if they could sit in her vehicle for a few minutes to cool off from the heat. Once inside the vehicle, a firearm was displayed, and the victim was forced to drive to an ATM before being taken to her home in Orange County. At the residence, the suspects stole cash and personal property.
“Following the robbery, the victim was forced to drive the suspects to the Town of Orange, where she dropped them off. The victim was not physically harmed during the incident.”
