Three Former UVA Tennis Stars Play in Third Round of Wimbledon

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) –A banner year for former UVA tennis players continues in 2024, as three alumni have advanced far into tournament play at Wimbledon. Following their selection for the US women’s tennis team in Paris 2024, both Danielle Collins and Emma Navarro have reached the third round. Navarro progressed to the fourth round after dramatic victories over four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka and her former doubles partner and collegiate rival Diana Shnaider, a one-time standout for the NC State Wolfpack.

World #11 Danielle Collins, also called to Olympic duty, is set for her third-round match against Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, after defeating Hungarian Dalma Galfi in the second round.

On the men’s side, Brandon Nakashima has also reached the third round, but his match against Ugo Humbert has been suspended due to weather. Further updates will follow when the tournament resumes.
