Tennis: UVA ’22 Alumna Navarro Sees US Open Run End

Flushing, NY (CVILLE RIGHT NOW):Virginia women’s tennis Class of ’22 alumn Emma Navarro saw her spectacular US Open Run come to an end last night at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.

Navarro fell to world #2 Belarussian Aryna Sabalenka 6-3, 7-6, with Sabalenka hitting 8 aces in the match.

Meanwhile, the other American in the semifinals, Jessica Pegula, pulled out another dramatic victory over Karolina Muchova to advance to the US Open Final, 1-6 6-4 6-2.

Pegula also bested World #1 Iga Swiatek in an earlier round in her run to the final.

It will be Pegula’s first ever grand slam final.
