State Police Investigate Amherst County Crash That Killed a 16-Year Old

AMHERST, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal single vehicle crash that occurred Saturday afternoon on Possum Island Road in Amherst County. A 2024 Kia Forte was heading southbound on Possum Island Road around 1:45pm Saturday, heading towards the intersection with Millennium Way, when the Forte lost control, went off of the right side of the road, struck a mailbox, and then a utility pole. The Forte then overturned.

A passenger in the vehicle, a 16-year-old male, was ejected and died at the scene. The passenger was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the Forte, Lucas S. Fretwell, 34, of Madison Heights, Va., suffered minor injuries. Fretwell was not wearing a seatbelt. Charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
