CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A Stuarts Draft man faces multiple charges after allegedly shooting into a Lyndhurst area home on Tuesday morning.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office received a report of shots fired into a home on Blackford Way just before 7 a.m. Deputies arrived approximately 20 minutes later.

Prior to their arrival, a male fled the area in a 2003 white Jeep Liberty. A short time later, deputies located the vehicle in the Stuarts Draft area. Jose Martinez-Cruz was taken into custody without incident on View Drive.

The 42-year-old Stuarts Draft man has been charged with maliciously shooting into an occupied building, shooting from a vehicle, six counts of child abuse or neglect with reckless disregard for life, reckless handling of a firearm, shooting in a public place without bodily injury, and shooting across a road or street. Martinez-Cruz is currently being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.

Out of an abundance of caution, all Stuarts Draft Schools were placed on “Secure” status while deputies searched for the suspect.
