CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – An adult was evaluated at the scene for minor injuries in a late Thursday afternoon fire that affected four units in the 3300 block of Cardinal Hill Lane off Old Lynchburg Road.

According to an Albemarle Fire Rescue release, career and volunteer units responded at 5:51 p.m. to a fire alarm.

The first fire crews to arrive found smoke in one unit, and that occupant along with neighboring units were able to self-evacuate.

That’s when they also found the injured adult.

Four total units were impacted and displaced residents are being assisted by property management.

The Albemarle County Fire Marshal’s Office determined the cause of the fire to be accidental in nature due to cooking grease.

In the release, ACFR reminded the community to never leave cooking food unattended.

If a fire starts, immediately cover the pan with a lid to smother flames and turn off the burner. Using water on a grease fire can cause it to become explosive and spread flames,” the release said.
