CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Harvard professor, activist and content creator Sunn m’Cheaux will be the guest at this year’s Juneteenth Celebration. On Friday, June 15, he will speak on The Language of Freedom. He will then carry the banner in Saturday morning’s Juneteenth Parade.
Sunn m’Cheaux, who was born and raised in the South Carolina Low Country, where he grew up speaking the Gullah language, and now teaches it in Harvard’s African Language Program. He’s also fluent in various Afro-Caribbean creoles, including Bahamian Creole English and Jamaican Patois. Another passion is music. To date, he has released five full-length studio albums, a myriad of singles and music videos, and has recorded a trove of yet to be released work. He has lived and travelled across the U.S. and ventured abroad as an independent recording artist and producer.
