Former UVA Basketball Star Sam Hauser Signs $45 Million Extension with Celtics

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Former Virginia men’s basketball standout Sam Hauser has secured a four-year, $45 million contract extension with the Boston Celtics, keeping him with the NBA champions through the 2028-2029 season. This deal comes less than a month after the Celtics picked up his $2.1 million option for next season.

Hauser went from undrafted out of Virginia in 2021 to a key contributor for the Celtics.

In his third NBA season, Hauser averaged career highs of 9.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game, shooting 42.4% from three-point range. He made 10 threes in just 13 attempts in a single game, setting a new NBA record for the fastest 10 three-pointers. He appeared in 79 games last season.

Earlier this month, Hauser joined the ranks of former Virginia players to win an NBA Championship, following in the footsteps of Wally Walker, Marc Iavaroni, Rick Carlisle, Jeff Lamp, and Mamadi Diakite.

He will earn $2,092,344 in the final year of his rookie deal before the extension begins in the 2025-2026 season, where his salary will jump to $10,044,643 annually, averaging $11,250,000 over the next four years.
