Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi coming to UVA’s Rotunda

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi will speak at UVA’s Rotunda on Wednesday as part of the Karsh Institute of Democracy’s “Congress as a Cornerstone of American Democracy” event series.

In a conversation with Susan Page, Washington Bureau Chief at USA Today, Pelosi, one of the nation’s most influential Democrats for the last four decades, will reflect on the importance of Congress in meeting Americans’ needs and strengthening democratic institutions, according to a release.

Pelosi, 85, has been part of California’s House of Representatives delegation since 1987 and served two terms as the Speaker. She was re-elected 18 times by voters in the San Francisco area. She announced she will not seek re-election and will retire in January 2027.

The event takes place at 2:00 p.m. in the Rotunda’s Dome Room.
