Fire Guts Abandoned, Overgrown House on 5th Street

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A fire gutted an abandoned house at 806 5th Street SW this morning, leading to the closure of parts of Cherry Avenue and 5th Street. Charlottesville Fire crews were dispatched shortly after 8 a.m. and found heavy flames in the two-story home, with overgrown vegetation making access difficult.

The fire was brought under control, and crews remained on-site to manage hot spots.  No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remained under investigation.
