Elkton woman charged with first degree murder

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – An Elkton woman is in custody after being charged with first degree murder over the weekend.

Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson says that on Sunday, at 7:35am, the Sheriff’s Office and Rockingham County Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the 1600 Block of Lawson Lane in Elkton for a domestic disturbance and physical altercation.

Responders then located a male victim in need of medical treatment and was transported to Sentara RMH for treatment where he was pronounced deceased. The victim has been identified as 84-year-old Wilfred Thomas Shifflett of Elkton.

The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation which led to first degree murder charges for 38-year-old Tabitha Nicole Taylor of Elkton.

Sheriff Hutcheson says the victim and suspect lived together but were not related.
