ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The house destroyed by fire in the 2100 block of Loring Circle on Monday, May 19, 2025, was the home of Albemarle Supervisor Ned Gallaway.

Albemarle Fire Rescue has determined that the fire was accidental in nature, but the exact cause remains under investigation.

“While this has been a deeply personal loss for my family, I want to publicly thank Albemarle County Fire Rescue, including both career and volunteer members, as well as the Albemarle County Police Department and other first responders who acted quickly to contain the fire,” said Gallaway in an update released by Albemarle Fire Rescue. “I’ve always been proud to serve this community, and in the wake of this loss, I’ve seen firsthand just how compassionate it is. My family and I are deeply grateful for every person who has reached out in support. We kindly ask for privacy as we continue to process and recover.”

The Gallaway family also lost their dogs in the fire, with no signs of their four cats. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with general living expenses and temporary housing. The goal is $50,000. The largest donation at the end of Wednesday, May 22, $35,752. The largest donation of $10,000 was made by an anonymous donor.
