UVA Chemistry Building Reopened After Hazardous Chemical Scare


CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The UVA Chemistry Building was reopened just before 5:00pm on Thursday after emergency responders were able to remove a potentially hazardous mixture of chemicals from one of the facility’s labs.

In a statement, UVA officials called the mixture of the chemicals “inadvertent” and said the lab was immediately isolated.

The building was evacuated for 3 hours before people were allowed to re-enter the building.

Roads were closed surrounding the Chemistry Building as a safety precaution.
