Impaired Culpeper driver knocks down utility pole, crushing gas station canopy

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A Culpeper man was taken into custody by police Tuesday afternoon after crashing his car into a utility pole and damaging a local gas station, according to Culpeper Police.

71-year-old David Green was driving a car that struck a utility pole in the area of Germanna Highway and Orange Rd. at about 3:23 p.m., causing the pole fall onto and collapse the canopy at C&C Shell.

Green was taken to UVA Culpeper Medical Center to be treated, during which time investigators concluded Green was impaired while driving his vehicle, leading to the crash. 

Police said Green’s vehicle left the road, crossed the center line of the road, and struck the utility pole. Green was arrested on suspected impaired driving charges at the hospital.
