CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The city as well as Charlottesville City Schools has begun work on the city’s largest rooftop solar installation at CATEC. A city release says the solar photovoltaic rooftop array will have 478 panels with a projected onsite power generation of 250,000 kilowatts annually, which is over 60% of the building’s energy consumption. The system will also be remotely monitored, allowing City staff to track energy production and savings in real time. Completion will be this fall.
The city calls this a milestone in Charlottesville’s commitment to clean energy adoption and resource conservation, aligning with climate goals of reducing emissions by 45% by 2030 and aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050. Click here for the entire announcement.
