Charlottesville Police make arrest in Riverview Park and Carlton Avenue assaults

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville Police have arrested a man in connection with two May assaults — one May 1 in Riverview Park, and another May 12 along Carlton Avenue. Police Tuesday arrested Cole Robinson McNair, who now faces a sexual battery charge in the Riverview Park incident, and assault and battery in the incident in the 1300 block of Carlton Avenue.

In the May 1 incident in Riverview, a woman reported a thin white male with a moustache and shaggy blond hair approached and made several statement to her before touching her on the backside. The woman shoved him away and he fled on foot.  Then late Sunday morning May 12, a man with a similar description reportedly assaulted an individual in Belmont along Carlton Avenue near Randolph Street. Police released no other details.
CPD does not believe the May Riverview Park assault is related to those reported in January. McNair is being held in the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
