Charlottesville Man Pleads Guilty to Possession of a Firearm in August Shooting

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Esteban Benjamin Fortin has pled guilty to the charge of felon in possession of a firearm for his involvement in a shooting incident on August 22, 2024, on Mason Street. The case stems from an early morning incident in which Charlottesville Police responded to reports of a shooting and found an adult male victim on the scene with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to the University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment.

Following an investigation, Charlottesville Police identified Fortin as the suspect, resulting in his arrest and subsequent charge. Fortin, a convicted felon, faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison. He is scheduled for sentencing on January 9, 2025.
