Charlottesville Fire Marshal: Fireworks Illegal in City, Limited Use in Nearby Counties

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – As July 4th approaches, Charlottesville Fire Marshal Joe Phillips says fireworks in the city — including sparklers — are illegal. He says those fireworks stands you see near the city are actually in the county where Virginia legal fireworks are legal. That said, check your local listings for what the regulations are in your locality. Also check with your neighborhood association as fireworks, though legal in your county, may not be allowed in your neighborhood… or they may only be allowed in designated areas.

Phillips recommends going to a fireworks show with professional pyrotechnics. Although there’s not one in Charlottesville this year, there are shows around Scottsville, Lake Monticello, the July 4 Jubilee at Wintergreen, and the Red, White, Blue ‘n Greene in Ruckersville.
