CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – There’s still time probably to order those eclipse glasses for Monday afternoon from a courier heading into the weekend, and local retailers have them available in shop. One of the things for sure, according to local storm chasing and space weather meteorologist Peter Forister, is do not look at the sun without them even with the sun covered. He says you can flat-out burn a hole in your retina looking directly at it, and those glasses are by far your best option if you wish to view it.

He says our area will get about 85% of the sun covered, and there will be clouds around. However, since the whole process is from 2-to-4 Monday, there’ll likely be time the clouds won’t be in the way.

He’s going to Indiana which will be part of the path of totality — which goes from southern Texas near San Antonio up through the midwest in southern Indiana, northern Ohio, and up through Caribou, ME. He recommends anyone who can make the drive to 100% coverage area to do that. You can click here to see Accuweather’s totality map and other information.
