CHARLOTTSVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – UPDATE 11:40AM: After Albemarle Police, along with help from Charlottesville and UVA, finished a sweep after a morning bomb threat, Burley Middle and Post High schools are able to continue their Friday school day. Earlier indications were the investigation would take longer than it actually did, but assistance from the other two law enforcement agencies helped expedite the process. Officers and K-9s were used, and the all-clear issued just after 11:15am. As soon as it was rendered safe for students, busses started bringing students held at Monticello High to the Rose Hill Drive schools for the remainder of their school day.
Lunches are being fed at Burley, and families who picked up their children are welcome and encouraged to return them to school to complete the day. However, it is not a requirement.
ORIGINAL:
Burley Middle and Post High schools are on hold right now, and might possibly close for the day, as Albemarle Police investigate a bomb threat. Albemarle Police say they were dispatched at 8:18AM, about 20 minutes before the school day starts at Burley. The school was evacuated, and students on busses were diverted to the designated emergency holding spot at Monticello High School where there are in the gym at this time.
While it is not completely determined what’s going to happen with the Burley and Post school day, students can be picked up at Monticello if a family desires. Be ready with proper ID and pickup procedures. Students are being safely held at Monticello until determination is made to cancel school and run busses or salvage part of the school day.
