CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Thursday morning at the Rio Hill Kroger, it’s the annual pre-Thanksgiving Shop To Stop Hunger. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank’s Les Sinclair says Mayor JuanDiego Wade and UVA baseball slugger Harrison Didawick are among the personalities who — in a Supermarket Sweep-type game — will have 60-seconds to pack their shopping carts with as much food as possible for the food bank. Vying for the coveted “Cart Away Hunger” trophy, the winner is determined by the most valuable cart and the most public “votes”, which are food and funds donated in their name. Kroger customers can “vote” by placing food items in contestants’ donation barrels at the store or by making online contributions.

You can show up and see the rush at 10am Thursday and donate there. Or you can click here and donate online.

The list of participants include:

  • Kate Mora, President of Kroger Mid-Atlantic
  • Michael Thomas, Fire Chief, City of Charlottesville
  • Juandiego Wade, Mayor, City of Charlottesville
  • Harrison Didawick, Outfielder, UVA Baseball
