CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Alexzander Turner, 21, pled guilty to multiple charges on October 28, 2024, stemming from a July 2, 2024 incident in which police say he led officers on a high-speed chase and fled on foot. Turner admitted guilt to felony eluding, felony possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, and misdemeanor hit and run.

According to the Charlottesville Police Department, the incident began when officers attempted a traffic stop on Turner’s white Honda sedan. Police say Turner disregarded the stop, made a three-point turn, accelerated toward officers, and struck both a police vehicle and a parked car before fleeing the scene. The pursuit continued to the 900 block of 1st Street, where police report that Turner exited the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. Officers apprehended him in the area of Lankford Avenue.

Charlottesville Police further reported that they recovered an AK-47 style rifle, narcotics, and ammunition from Turner’s possession at the time of his arrest. Initial charges included firearm possession by a convicted felon and driving with a forfeited license, among others. Turner now faces up to 11 years in prison, with sentencing set for January 7, 2025.

Chief Mike Kochis praised the officers’ efforts following the incident, emphasizing the risks law enforcement encounters daily, stating that incidents like this underscore “the dangerous work our officers do each and every day.”
