Albemarle County mailing out new real estate tax bills after misprint

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Albemarle County is getting the word out to residents if your real estate tax bill “amount due” this month looks high… it’s because it is too high. County interim communications director Abbey Stumpf tells Morning News there’s a printing error. The body of the bill at the top has the right breakdown… but the payment stub at the bottom of the bill has the wrong amount due. It shows the total amount of the bill for the year, not the half-amount for the year that is the actual “payment due”.

She says the county is reprinting and sending out corrected bills… and they’ll be in different colors in attempts to tell people it’s a correction and not an additional bill. Stumpf notes this is a printing error, not a system error, so you’ll see the correct half-amount for the year if you log into your account on E-Billing.
