ACPD makes arrest following Christmas shooting

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Albemarle County Police Department has arrested an individual in connection with a shooting that occurred late Thursday night on Slate Mill Branch Road.

At approximately 11:15 p.m. Christmas Day, the Albemarle County Police Department and Albemarle County Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a shooting in the 1700 block of Slate Mill Branch Road. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the hand. The victim was treated at the scene and transported to UVA Hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

During the investigation, officers determined that the suspect and victim knew one another and that the incident was not random. Roland Keith Shifflet, 46, was identified as the suspect. The Charlottesville man has been charged with malicious wounding and is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
