CHARLOTTESVILLE (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – An Albemarle County Police officer witnessed a driver illegally pass a school bus on Proffit Road on Thursday morning. The driver has been charged misdemeanor hit-and-run and passing a stopped school bus.

At approximately 8:40 a.m., an officer monitoring traffic near school bus routes in the area of Proffit Road and Acadia Drive saw a drive pass a stopped school bus.

After conducting the traffic stop, the officer determined that the vehicle had struck the bus’s stop arm. No students were boarding or exiting the bus at the time, and there were no injuries.

The incident occurred during National School Bus Safety Week. ACPD is reminding the community that passing a stopped school bus is both dangerous and illegal.
