FREDERICKSBURG, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – UPDATE 9/17 at 11am: Rachel Vindman has deleted her tweet regarding Sunday’s attempt to assassinate Donald Trump. She writes, “I have deleted my tweet. It was flippant & political violence is a serious issue. Whether it’s aimed at a former president, the media, immigrants, or political “enemies” & every incident should be addressed appropriately if we want to change the tenor of our political discourse.”

“I have sat awake many nights wondering who might be outside. I have known the instant fear of receiving an unknown package or letter. I have had my child ask me if we were safe and if someone was going to hurt our family. With social media it’s easy to say the wrong thing and then walk away, but if words matter for some they should matter for all. I don’t always get it right the first time. I’m grateful to all who have supported us throughout the past five years.”
The Richmond Times-Dispatch asked Eugene Vindman’s campaign about Mrs. Vindman’s post, and they replied he can only speak for himself.

ORIGINAL: 7th District Democratic candidate for Congress Eugene Vindman posts on X about the second Trump assassination attempt, “I am deeply disturbed by yet another attempt of political violence in our nation.”
“I am grateful that no one is hurt, and thankful for the law enforcement agents who acted bravely and swiftly in the line of duty.}I am deeply disturbed by yet another attempt of political violence in our nation.”
However, his Republican opponent Derrick Anderson is calling posts by Vindman’s sister-in-law, Rachel Vindman “horrible”.

Rachel Vindman, upon hearing of the assassination attempt, posted “No ears were harmed… carry on with your Sunday afternoon”. Then she followed up, on somewhat of a vague-post some say was in response to responses to that initial post, “Sorry you’re triggered… I mean, no I’m not… I don’t care a little bit”.

Her husband, Alexander Vindman — who was one of the whistleblowers in Trump’s phone call to Volodymyr Zelenskyy — doubled down, posting “Donald Trump can really reduce the temperature for the remainder of the election and condemn political violence of any stripe.”
“He can start by telling his supporters it is not okay to call in bomb threats against Haitians and attack immigrants or political opponents.”
