NORTH GARDEN, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Piedmont Group of the Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club Wednesday will recognize the work of the 500 Year Forest Foundation at the site of one local forest being preserved in North Garden. The Foundation conserves mature forests and the biologically diverse species they nurture by working in partnership with private landowners to help ensure their forests are protected into the future, and this presentation recognizes the Earth Flag to Forest Program. Designated 500-Year Forests are protected by conservation easements or amendments to existing conservation easements that provide these protections for the forest.

The Sierra Club says old-growth forests are out most endangered forests, and they’ll preseent this along Laird Lane at the 97-acre Bieker 500-year forest, which lies on the southwest slopes of Cook Mountain in North Garden and borders the Ravens Hill 500-year forest.
