CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – Earlier this week, it was all about the new restaurant opening with a new Raising Cane’s on The Corner. This weekend, though, it’s about the old… with The Virginian celebrating its centennial Saturday. They’re calling it “100 years down, 100 to go” as they will be running centennial specials all day long starting at 11am with giveaways of Virginian swag.

Among other things happening is a caricature artist and photo booth for keepsakes. They’ll have extended outdoor seating “to accommodate the many years of guests wanting to celebrate”. And at 10pm, they’ll have a special DJ until 2am “to take us into the next 100 years”.

Current owner Andy McClure procured the restaurant in 2001 among many owners who’ve had it since it first opened its doors in 1923. During its tenure, The Virginian was transformed to a soda fountain during prohibition, and temporarily “went under” during World War II.
