A former Jack Jouett teacher is accused of having sex with a student. 26-year-old Amelia Tat (pictured) was arrested Wednesday in Lynchburg where she now lives. The arrest follows an Albemarle Police investigation into alleged sexual activity between Tat and a student while Tat taught at Jack Jouett Middle School last year.
Tat is charged with two felony counts of carnal knowledge of a minor and one felony count of taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a custodial or supervisory relationship. Tat was also arrested on one felony count of carnal knowledge of a minor in Lynchburg. Tat has a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from UVA and a master’s of teaching degree, also from the University.
Albemarle prosecutor Robert Tracci says his office will aggressively prosecute crimes against minors and anybody who commits the offenses. County Police say it’s an ongoing investigation and anybody with information should call 296-5807.
