McGuire Faces Prison In Child Death

A Scottsville man accused of killing a 13-month-old in his care no longer faces murder charges, but does face prison time. Logan McGuire entered an Alford plea Friday to lesser charges of involuntary manslaughter and child abuse in Fluvanna County Circuit Court. His plea means he admits there was enough evidence to convict him with no admission of guilt.

The 26-year-old says he put the baby down for a nap on a futon, left the room, then heard a thud and found the child dead between the couch and a nightstand. Fluvanna prosecutors view the incident as an example of shaken baby syndrome. McGuire faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced July 17th.
