CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WINA) – Two Charlottesville High School students were taken into custody after a Tuesday afternoon police chase.

The two were suspected of an attempted auto theft. It started as a car chase but at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers took off on foot. One of the suspects eventually made it inside the school, where they were apprehended.

According to CPD, the school was placed on a brief lockdown. According to messages sent out by Charlottesville City Schools, however, the district called “stay put, stay tuned” which kept students in their classrooms until the matter was resolved, which briefly delayed 7th period. The district also confirmed that both suspects were CHS students.

Both were eventually apprehended but because they are minors, CPD cannot release their identities.

Some took to social media to ask how the student was able to get inside.

To quote one post on CPD’s Facebook page, “If a fleeing car thief could run into the school, it looks as if precautions against school shooters are not in place. Bad omen.”
