Nelson man accidentally drowns in Smith Mountain Lake

(ROCKY MOUNT – WINA)   A Nelson County man drowned over the weekend in Smith Mountain Lake.   58-year-old Michael Wood died from drowning Saturday at the Pelican Point Yacht Club, which is a private marina and residential community.

Investigators from the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries say Wood’s death appears to be accidental.  Wood was the first drowning victim of the year at Smith Mountain Lake.
