Nathan Kirby Sidelined With Left Lat Strain

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia starting pitcher Nathan Kirby (Jr., Midlothian, Va.) will miss approximately 6-8 weeks with a strain of his left latissimus dorsi muscle. An MRI confirmed the lat strain with no other associated injuries. Surgery will not be required.
Kirby suffered the injury last Friday (April 17) in the third inning of the Cavaliers’ game with Miami.
Kirby is 5-2 with a 2.28 ERA in 10 starts this season. In 59 1/3 innings, he has allowed 50 hits and struck out an ACC-best 75 batters. He was a unanimous 2015 Preseason All-America pick and is on the midseason watch list for the Golden Spikes Award.
A reigning All-American and the 2014 Co-ACC Pitcher of the Year, Kirby is 18-6 with a 2.76 ERA and 224 strikeouts in 205 1/3 career innings. Kirby has appeared in 52 career games, while making 30 starts, including 28 over the last two seasons.
