Longtime State Trooper Dies In Henry County Crash

State Police are investigating the accidental death of a veteran state trooper. Sergeant Michael Philippi (pictured) was killed after his car veered off Route 57 in Henry County and struck a road sign. The 65-year-old Philippi was taken to Martinsville Memorial Hospital where he died early Saturday morning. He joined the State Police in May 1971, and was assigned to the Salem Division at the time of his death. Philippi was the first state trooper to die in the line-of-duty this year.
