Greene County shooting suspect arrested

GREENE COUNTY, Va. (WINA) – Jeffery Dennis Simms, 61, of Stanardsville is now in the Central Virginia Regional Jail for a shooting last month in Greene County.

On Friday, December 15, Greene County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting on Ford Ave. It was isolated incident with an individual treated on the scene for a gunshot wound.

Simms was arrested in Washington, D.C. earlier this week, and is now being held without bond.

He’s been charged with malicious wounding, maliciously shooting at an occupied vehicle, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and violent felon in possession of a firearm.

Simms will have a first appearance at 90 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, in Greene County General District Court.
