POUND (WINA) – The Virginia Department of Corrections mail unit discovered 36 strips of Buprenorphine within the spine of a book mailed to an inmate at Red Onion State Prison last week. The DOC’s Centralized Mail Distribution Center has stopped more than 100 pieces of mail containing drugs from entering facilities this year.

Buprenorphine is used to treat opioid addiction; It also produces a feeling of euphoria.

Investigation of the December 12th discovery continues.
